@ John Kindlewood. Hope by now you've gotten an answer. Ultimately, the goal of the therapy discussed above is to reduce the amount of EXCITATORY neurotransmitter. You do this by treating with INHIBITORY ones. In this case Serotonin was given as it is the opposite of the excitatory ones. Serotonin can be found in the form called 5-HTP (5-Hydroxy-TryptoPhan) over the counter. Make sure you are purchasing from a reputable supplier.
One of the main things I see with ASD is a severe lack of good quality sleep for the patients. They just aren't tired. Over stimulation by excitatory neurotransmitters will cause this. Serotonin on the other hand is often given to my patients with sleep difficulties to get them to sleep, and to restore their neurotransmitter balance. This therapy then should make sense in a child not sleeping due to ASD.
Hope this helps.

Wow. Nicely written. I feel like it was written for me. I live with a lot of stress from work and it definitely effects my way of eating. I'm going to take the vitamins mentioned:
"People under stress are often deficient in the B vitamins, particularly pyrodoxine and pantothenic acid, as well as vitamin C and the minerals calcium, magnesium and zinc."
Thanks Dr. Pressman, it's great to receive professional advice like this for free.

A new testosterone study from Bhasin in NEJM was halted early because the testosterone treated group had more heart attacks. A closer look reveals a flawed study with a skewed test group of obese, immobilized elderly men with heart disease. 75% were heavy smokers. Almost all had hypertension. Many were diabetics, 60% were on statin drugs and average age was 74.

The Bhasin study is refuted by decades of previous studies showing that testosterone is beneficial for the heart. Three population studies have shown that low testosterone levels in men are associated with increased mortality from cardiovascular disease. A recent study by Chris Malkin in Heart followed 900 men with angiographic demonstration of coronary artery disease over 8 years. The men with low testosterone had 22% mortality compared to only 12 % for men with normal testosterone levels. Testosterone reduces time to cardiac ischemia in men stable angina and improves functional capacity in men with heart failure. Similarly, testosterone is beneficial for women with heart failure, as well.
